爱荷华州立大学土木工程系郑俊星课题组招收博士生和访问学者

Iowa State University is classified as a Carnegie Foundation Doctoral/Research University-Extensive, a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), and ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top public universities in the United States. Iowa State University is located in Ames, Iowa (see the picture below) which is recently ranked as one of the top 20 best places in America to live and work and the No. 2 Best College Town. The Department of Civil, Construction, Environmental Engineering of Iowa State University has 45 faculty members and various state of art geotechnical and environmental experimental facilities, which is one of the biggest civil engineering departments in the United States.

Dr. Junxing Zheng obtained his B.S. in Civil Engineering and M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering both from Tongji University at 2009 and 2012 respectively. In 2012, he started his PhD study in Civil Engineering, specialized in Geotechnical Engineering, at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He got his PhD degree in April, 2017 and was immediately employed as a tenure-tracked Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil, Construction, Environmental Engineering of Iowa State University. His research interests include four areas: 1) geotechnical laboratory and field tests, foundation and tunneling, soil mechanics, and constitutive modeling, 2) numerical modeling using discrete element method and finite element method, 3) computer vision and sensor technology for solving geotechnical engineering problems; 4) advance statistics, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Dr. Zheng’s group is seeking 2~3 high-motivated and talent PhD students with a strong background in applied mechanics, computer programming, and mathematics. The candidates are expected to hold a M.S. degree but outstanding candidates with B.S. degree will be also considered. This research position is fully funded including a full tuition coverage, health insurance and monthly stipend of over $2000. The candidates can start from either Spring 2018 or Fall 2018.
