Colleagues,
Colorado School of Mines (Mines) has launched a cluster hire initiative (3 faculty positions) in Underground Construction and Tunneling (UC&T). This initiative spans three academic departments (Civil, Geological, Mining) and is targeted to enhance interdisciplinary education and research through the university-wide Center of Excellence in UC&T.
Mines is home to a premier UC&T research and education program developed in partnership by the three departments. Mines developed interdisciplinary MS and PhD degrees specifically in UC&T to complement existing disciplinary MS and PhD degrees, as well as an undergraduate minor in UC&T. Mines offers more than a dozen UC&T-related courses each year and hosts a number of multi-day industry short courses. Research conducted through the multidisciplinary Center of Excellence in UC&T brings together more than 30 faculty and students in civil, geological, and mining engineering, in addition to mechanical, electrical, computer science and geophysics. With a joint emphasis on fundamental breakthroughs in underground engineering combined with applied innovation for current practice, the Center partners with industry and federal/state/municipal agencies to advance its research efforts. Center faculty and students pursue innovative experimental, analytical and computational research using Mines’ world class laboratory facilities, as well as on numerous underground construction projects throughout the world. The wealth of unique UC&T educational offerings combined with a robust research program allows us to recruit the best and brightest students from across North America and the world. Information about the UC&T program and its academic and research programs can be found at http://uct.mines.edu/.
Review of applications will begin January 6, 2015. Further information is provided in the attached and can be found
