PhD and Post-doctoral Opportunities
Applications are invited for PhD students (2023-2024) and Post-doctoral fellows to study and work at the Department of Earth Sciences, the University of Hong Kong. Applicants should possess a Master Degree (PhD applicants) or PhD degree (Post-doctoral fellow applicants) in civil engineering/geotechnical engineering/computer science obtained from a top University. Candidates with a good GPA and SCI-indexed publications are at an advantage.

The University is now inviting applications for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Philosophy (MPhil) programmes for 2023-24. Application period for the Main Round admission in 2023-24 is open from September 1 to December 1, 2022.
The University offers the most generous fellowships and scholarships for outstanding full-time PhD candidates through the HKU Presidential PhD Scholar Programme and RGC’s Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS). The scholarship package is around HK$1.6 million. Other full-time PhD and MPhil students who hold a first degree with second-class honours first division (or equivalent) or above are normally considered eligible to receive a Postgraduate Scholarship (PGS) (~HK$890,000 for 4-year PhD student and ~HK$440,000 for MPhil students) during the normative study period, subject to availability of funding.
Moreover, an PhD and MPhil Virtual Information Week will be held on October 24-28, 2022 for prospective applicants who are interested to pursue PhD and MPhil studies at the University. There will be information sessions conducted by academic units and the Graduate School, student sharing sessions and proposal writing workshops.
